The Yellowstone Expedition is on the board! We spent our first day in the park practicing some basics while fishing the Gibbon River for some eager Brown and Brook Trout. It was a great start to the trip, as everyone found some success during our first day on the water. After fishing, we continued on to our campsite at Grant Village along the banks of Yellowstone Lake.
Half the group hit the trail for their backcountry this morning. A three-night trek into the headwaters of the Snake River. There they will have the chance to land some Native Snake River Cutthroat and the occasional trophy Brown Trout. One of our groups earlier this summer even caught three lake trout. The other half of the group spent today chasing huge Yellowstone Cutthroat on the upper Yellowstone River. For the next two nights, we will all meet up in the backcountry before the first group hikes out on the 31st.
We will send another trip update when the second group gets out on the 1st and we all head to Bridge Bay campground for some showers and laundry. With any luck, by the next time you hear from us, we hope to have caught 4 different species of trout.
