Hello! Our names are Ed, Burke, and Max. We are the guides for your camper’s Yellowstone Expedition. Ed is a middle school Social Studies teacher from Flagstaff, Arizona. Burke is student at Boise State University, and Max is a student at Montana State University. Ed will be departing in the middle of the trip to begin the next school year, and he will be replaced by Will Lillard, the founder of LFFE.
The crew has arrived! The first campers started getting into the Bozeman airport at noon. Except for one flight cancellation, everything went pretty smoothly. We left the airport and made the hour long drive to the LFFE headquarters in Ennis, Montana, home of the famous Madison River.
After their arrival, the crew did introductions, tent setup, a knot clinic, and went over the general plan and protocols for our time in Yellowstone National Park.
We will start the trip tomorrow by driving into the park and fishing the Gibbon River, a smaller mellow river to hone our skills and assess campers’ abilities. After a day fishing, we will continue to Grant Village, on the south side of Yellowstone Lake. There we will prepare for our first backcountry expedition, where we will go to the headwaters of the Snake River in the southern part of the park. We will be at the Snake for four days, chasing Yellowstone cutthroat and brown trout.
Next update will come when we exit the backcountry!
