Dear parents,
Arrival day went by without a hitch, with some spare time to take a short drive to the picturesque mountain town of Jackson, Wyoming. After settling in at the Gros Ventre campsite, the group enjoyed pizza and a few games of ultimate frisbee.
Today we drove back into Jackson to get any last-minute flies, snacks, or clothes we might need for the week ahead. In the afternoon, we completed our backcountry prep session at a park in town. Prepping for a trip of this magnitude is no small task, and it felt good to check that off our list.
Tonight we will head up to a campground on the Buffalo Fork of the Snake River, a few hundred yards from our trailhead. Tomorrow we will wake up early to meet our horse packer, who will lighten our loads significantly for the big first day. The following day we will hike another 7 miles to a base camp in the headwaters of the Yellowstone River. The most remote place in the lower 48, where we hope to meet up with some massive Yellowstone Cutthroat making their way to their headwater spawning grounds. We won't exit the backcountry until the 30th ready for our banquet feast. We will send an update when we get back into cell service.
Tight lines,
Will, Zach, Cole, and crew
