Hard to believe that we are at the end of this trip! The past week has flown by and tomorrow the crew heads back home all over the country. After hiking out of the backcountry and cleaning up and resupplying, we headed to our new base of operations next to the Colorado River below the notorious Gore Canyon. We spent a good part of the day cleaning up campsites, and the wade fishing area near the Pumphouse Campground and Boat Ramp. After our service project was complete, I let the guys loose on the brown trout that inhabit this section of river. The guys put their new skills to good use, and a few of them managed to pull out fish in the 15”-17” range!
The next day was the capstone to the trip. We woke up early, wolfed down some pancakes and breakfast sausages, then met up with our float guides from Cutthroat Anglers for a full day of floating and fishing the Colorado. The guys acquitted themselves well, landing lots of fish, with a few 18”+ trophy browns sprinkled in the mix! After the float we retired to camp, chilled out for a while, then gorged on chicken fajitas for dinner… probably one of the best meals of the trip!
Today we made to move to Silverthorne Colorado where we cleaned gear, packed for ourflights, then hit the local rec center for “spa day.” Tonight we will be going out for steaks at The Mint Steakhouse here in Silverthorne, then hitting the hay early so we can make it to DIA for the flights home. It truly has been an unforgettable trip with a great group of guys, and the memories from this trip will certainly last a lifetime!
Tight Lines!
