Greetings from Rocky Mountain National Park here in colorful Colorado!
After scooping up everyone from the airport today, we began our drive through the Front Range of the Rockies toward the Park, enjoying the views along the way. We got to camp and got some of the basics out of the way – knot tying, casting practice, and some of the other basics of fly fishing – before some yummy burgers and what we’re sure will be a good night of sleep to follow. We even got a little campfire in thanks to some record snowfall in the Rockies this year keeping everything green and a little less flammable than usual, at least for now.
The group is getting along well, and it’s always a good sign to hear a chatty group in the van on the first day. We are looking forward to the trip, and everyone is excited to hit the water tomorrow. After some eggs and bacon in the morning, we will start our trip on the Upper Colorado River in RMNP, teaching the crew a bit about bug identification, fly selection, and reading water in order to get dialed in for the rest of the trip. Learning these tools and then practicing them over the next week and a half will set everyone well on their way to being independent anglers by the end of the trip and beyond, and we cannot wait to see how everyone progresses.
We will keep you all posted over the next few days and hope that you are as excited for the adventures ahead as we are here in the Park.
Until then – tight lines!
Jack, Remi, Zach and the crew
