Greetings from Ennis, Montana!
After collecting everyone from the Bozeman airport, we drove the hour drive between the Gallatin and Big Sky Mountain Ranges through the Madison River Valley here to our base camp a few minutes outside of Ennis. This river -- the Madison -- is arguably the most famous trout river in the continental U.S., boasting tens of millions of trout within its bends. That bounty is certainly something that we will be tapping into in the coming days. We'll be fishing spots such as Three Dollar Bridge, Valley Garden, and Reynolds
After settling in at base camp, we reviewed some casting techniques, talked about knot tying, fly identification and selection, and a few other fishing-related skills that we will be working on over the next weeks. It's always fun watching the nerves melt away and seeing the group get to know each other a little better. A dinner of smashburgers waited for us back at basecamp, and we concluded the night with a short hike up the foothills to watch the sun set over this picturesque valley. During this time, we talked about the details of the trip and some LFFE ground rules; this intro talk sets the stage for what will undoubtedly be an unforgettable trip.
Tomorrow, we'll wake and have breakfast, get fishing licenses and get on the river. The group is shaping up well and we could not be more excited for the adventures ahead. The next update will come to you all in a few day's time, with pictures of some beautiful Montana trout! We're excited about the trip and can feel the excitement from the group. Until next time!
Tight lines,
The guide crew
