Mass Bass Adventure - Update 1

Hi Families!

The group is headed out today in the official start of the Mass Bass Adventure! As the guys trickled in throughout the day, it was so great to begin to get to know one another a little more and hear everyone’s hopes and goals for the trip! It is certainly a very ambitious and excited group that is ready to hit it hard and have an awesome time. After long travel days coming from all over the country (and a number of different states including Colorado, New Jersey, North Carolina, Alabama, and Massachusetts), the kids and guides alike were thrilled to make it to our camping spot at the beautiful Housatonic Meadows State Park in north western Connecticut near the town of Sharon. Housatonic Meadows is nestled in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut, along the banks of the beautiful Housatonic river. The proximity of the campsites to the river (just a few yards) make for excellent opportunities to have great fishing during down time in camp with great numbers of good-sized smallmouth bass ready and willing to eat.

As we wind down for the night, we're setting up camp and doing some lessons on things like camp etiquette, safely and correctly pitching tents and sleeping gear, and some fly casting instruction. With camp all set and ready for the next few days, we'll cook up some awesome burritos as the sun sets and everyone settles in. The first evening is always fun -- watching the nerves melt away and guys get to know each other and make connections.

After dinner we'll light a campfire and have our opening talk to the guys, going over our ground rules, hearing from the group about individual goals for the trip, and talking about where we’ll
fish for the next few days. Numerous opportunities for smallmouth and largemouth bass, pike, and trout fishing will fill up our next few days and the guides are confident that we’ll see plenty of fish to the net before we head to the coast! All in all, our guide team is so pumped to take the fellas to the river in the next few days and
there isn’t a doubt that we’re going to have an amazing trip!

Until next time,

Hunt, Sean, Braedon and the Mass Bass Crew

Lillard Fly Fishing Expeditions was started in 2010 as a graduate thesis for my Master's Degree in Environmental Conservation Education at NYU. The operating premise was simple - by coupling amazing wilderness fly fishing camps for teens with environmental education and service learning we can help inspire future generations of fly fishing conservationists. We have been growing our unique list of trips and experiences ever since.

When it comes to choosing a summer program for your teen the options are endless. For the teen who loves to fish, be outside, and has a strong sense of adventure we have made the choice easy. We are the leader in teen fly fishing adventures and are dedicated to providing the best backcountry fly fishing experience with opportunities for teens to engage in leadership training, community service, and backcountry camping.

Sincerely,
