Base Camp Crew

The Base Camp Crew is a new role created for the 2024 season. The goal is to help bridge the gap between our participants and trip leaders. Transitioning from participant to guide can be difficult, and the amount of previously unnoticed work that goes into running a successful trip can be overwhelming. As part of the Base Camp Crew, you will gain first-hand experience leading groups, guiding on the water, and teaching new skills while also helping make sure our base camp in Ennis, MT is running smoothly. That means you may be mowing lawns, fixing trailers, cleaning gear, and general maintenance. What you get out of this experience will hinge upon what you put in. We are looking for individuals who are ready to work hard, and excited about the opportunity. When the work is done right you will have plenty of time to fish, access to vans/rafts, and all your expenses paid for a pretty epic summer in Montana.

Job Description

The Base Camp Crew consists of graduating seniors entering their first year of college. As part of the crew, you must be ready for your job to change daily and often hourly. When groups are at base camp, you help trips run smoothly by becoming an enthusiastic member of the leadership team. You may be on the water helping guide participants, taking photos for parents, running food prep, or teaching a knot-tying lesson. In the evening, you will be helping with the cook crew, leading an evening activity, facilitating a positive environment around camp, or back out on the water. When groups aren't around base camp you may be helping with maintenance around camp, scouting some rivers, or helping plan, shop for, and organize food.

Job Requirements

Open to graduating high school seniors 18 and older. We are looking for candidates who will work hard, take initiative, be a role model for participants, and have fun while they do it. It is not enough to enjoy the time off on the water. You must be genuinely excited to be around participants, help teach, build on your leadership skills, and take pride in doing the behind-the-scenes work that allows our trips to run smoothly.

Base Camp Crew can not drive vehicles with participants inside but must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Lillard Fly Fishing Expeditions was started in 2010 as a graduate thesis for my Master's Degree in Environmental Conservation Education at NYU. The operating premise was simple - by coupling amazing wilderness fly fishing camps for teens with environmental education and service learning we can help inspire future generations of fly fishing conservationists. We have been growing our unique list of trips and experiences ever since.
